The timeless adage “fortune favors the bold” was rarely more true than on the night when Jack Hermansson took on Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza. Hermansson (20-4 MMA, 7-2 UFC) had been an impressive competitor in the UFC middleweight division for awhile, but he hadn’t quite broken through to the elite ranks. That’s why he decided to take a slot as a replacement against one of the game’s most respected competitors in “Jacare” just four weeks after Hermansson scored an impressive finish of former WSOF champion David Branch. Hermansson took the main-event slot against the former Strikeforce champion at UFC on ESPN+ 8 on April 27 in Sunrise, Fla. And from there, he delivered with a career-making performance, as “The Joker” went on to a one-sided unanimous decision victory over “Jacare.” Saturday, Hermansson will fight Jared Cannonier (12-4 MMA, 5-4 UFC) in the main event of UFC on ESPN+ 18.
