He may only have had one fight under the Bellator banner, but British star Saul Rogers says he’s ready to establish himself as one of the premier 145-pounders on the planet by tearing through the field in the 16-man Bellator featherweight grand prix. Rogers (13-2 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) will take on Germany’s two-time title challenger Daniel Weichel (39-11 MMA, 8-3 BMMA) in the first round of the tournament on Sept. 28 at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif. Rogers looks to use the Bellator 228 clash to kick-start his career after a difficult few years that have seen him battle visa issues, injuries and fight cancellations that left him sidelined and frustrated. “I’ve had some ups and some downs, but I’m buzzing now,” he told MMA Junkie from his training camp at Hard Knocks 365 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. “It took a while – I’ve been signed with Bellator since not long after ACB (in March 2017).
