SAN JOSE, Calif. – Phil Davis didn’t go into his rematch with Liam McGeary expecting the same fight they’d had in 2016. Still, Davis (19-5 MMA, 6-2 BMMA) was positively surprised by the performance that fellow former Bellator champion McGeary (13-3 MMA, 10-3 BMMA) put on at Bellator 220 on Saturday. “I really expected him to do something very aggressive in the first period and I expected to capitalize,” Davis told reporters, including MMA Junkie, after the DAZN-streamed main card fight at SAP Center in San Jose, Calif. ”Really, I was thinking it was going to be a first-round finish in my head, and he really showed his maturity.
