Filed under: News Mirko Filipovic turned back the clock in the quarterfinal round of today’s Rizin Grand Prix Open Weight 2016 when he upset 2015 tournament champion Muhammed Lawal with a second-round TKO . Filipovic (33-11-2) was originally expected to face Wanderlei Silva at the event, but when “The Axe Murderer” withdrew on less than one month’s notice, Lawal (20-6) opted to step in as a replacement for the quarterfinals of the the 16-man open weight tournament. “Cro Cop” made him pay for that decision, because after giving up an early takedown the Croatian striker found his groove on the feet.
