UFC welterweight Li Jingliang will not face sanctions despite testing positive for for a prohibited substance, U.S. Anti-Doping Agency officials today announced. In a sample collected prior to his July win over Anton Zafir at The Ultimate Fighter 23 Finale, Jingliang tested positive for “for trace amounts of clenbuterol,” according to USADA officials, who independently administer the UFC’s anti-doping program. However, a subsequent investigation revealed the substance, which is prohibited at all times, was “ingested by him without fault or negligence.” The Chinese fighter provided the out-of-competition urine sample in question on May 18. However, USADA officials determined Jingliang’s positive result was likely due to ingesting animal proteins that were tainted with the anabolic agent.
