There’s no doubt the two are cut from the same cloth, and their mentality – about fighting, about supporting teammates, and even about pre-event press-conference fiascos – are largely in synch. So Avila (5-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC), who meets fellow featherweight Artem Lobov (11-12-1 MMA, 0-2 UFC) on Saturday’s UFC 202 preliminary card, doesn’t regret his involvement in Wednesday’s melee. After all, when bottles and cans started flying between Diaz (19-10 MMA, 14-8 UFC) and fellow UFC 202 headliner Conor McGregor (19-3 MMA, 7-1 UFC), Avila was quick to jump in: Although Avila is fighting McGregor’s teammate, he’s not exactly fond of the man himself. “McGregor was late to the conference, he was being rude, he came in with his paid friends that he hired, and tried to come in like they were all badasses in the room,” said Avila, whose bout airs on FS1 prior to UFC 202’s pay-per-view main card. “And Nate disagreed and felt like we needed to get up out there – because they all walked in like they were badasses.
