But the welterweight champion has had enough of the five-round wars. “I’m sick of ‘Fight of the Years,’” Lawler said Tuesday at a media gathering in Los Angeles. “That’s what my game’s all about: trying to get in there and get a finish.” Lawler (27-10 MMA, 12-4 UFC) goes after his third title defense when he meets Tyron Woodley (15-3 MMA, 5-2 UFC) on July 30 at Philips Arena in Atlanta. Coming off an epic five-round performance against Carlos Condit at UFC 195, Lawler, who has fought into the fifth round in four straight contests and five of his past six, is looking for a quick finish against Woodley. But the welterweight champion is prepared for anything, especially given he and Woodley are both affiliated with American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Fla. Just days after his ATT teammate Will Brooks vehemently said he would never fight teammate Dustin Poirier, Lawler offered a different position on competing against Woodley.
