In an FS1-televised preliminary-card bout at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena, Northcutt (8-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) survived and escaped Enrique Marin’s (8-4 MMA, 0-2 UFC) submission attempts to grind out a unanimous-decision victory over lightweight. Critics quickly pointed to a lack of heart, though Northcutt and UFC President Dana White contributed the loss primarily to a serious bout of strep throat . This time, Northcutt said he had no doubts he could fend off Marin’s deep armbar and kimura attempts, which left “Super” stretched out in clearly painful positions. “I knew I was going to get out of both of those,” Northcutt said after UFC 200
