With an injury forcing Josh Thomson (22-8 MMA, 2-0 BMMA) out of a planned bout with former lightweight champion Michael Chandler (14-3 MMA, 11-3 BMMA), the organization has scrapped the matchup altogether. Bellator 154, which goes head-to-head with UFC 198’s preliminary card, takes place May 14 at SAP Center in San Jose, Calif. The main card airs on Spike following prelims on MMAjunkie. In a heavyweight bout, PRIDE, Strikeforce and M-1 vet Sergei Kharitonov (23-5 MMA, 0-0 BMMA), who’s riding a five-fight winning streak with four consecutive knockout victories, makes his promotional debut against Josh Appelt (12-5 MMA, 3-1 BMMA), who went 3-1 in his first Bellator stint before a recent run in the California-based WFC promotion, where he went 2-2 and recently won the heavyweight title with a second-round TKO of Roy Boughton.
