Filed under: Featured , Featured Videos , News , UFC , Videos LAS VEGAS – That it was going to be a heated face-off was a no-brainer. But it took a big crew to keep Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz from coming to blows today at the UFC 196 news conference. McGregor (19-2 MMA, 7-0 UFC) came forward in a hurry to meet Diaz (18-10 MMA, 13-8 UFC) at their face-off, and UFC President Dana White knew what was coming and was in between them right away. But when Diaz’s right fist got a little too close to McGregor’s chin for his liking, McGregor went to push it away with his left. Then the festivities went into Ron Burgundy mode: “That really escalated quickly.” While White, UFC public relations personnel, and MGM Grand Hotel & Casino security personnel got in the middle to make sure the two fighters didn’t actually fight before their fight, members of Diaz’s camp jumped onto the stage and had to be held back from McGregor’s side, as well, including Diaz’s brother Nick, WSOF fighter Jake Shields and UFC fighter Gilbert Melendez. The near-scuffle was in contrast to the face-off that came right before theirs between women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm (10-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) and her co-main event opponent, Miesha Tate (17-5 MMA, 4-2 UFC)
