When UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta announced the launch of UFC Fight Pass , the subscription-based online streaming service, in December 2013, his most effective selling point was a four-word description of the product: “Netflix for fight fans.” But when fans got their first chance to sample the product in early 2014, many felt underwhelmed. The UFC’s full fight library wasn’t yet available . The search function wasn’t terribly helpful in telling you what was available. Most importantly, the live events offered exclusively on UFC Fight Pass often seemed to be made up of leftovers, with lower-level fighters or relative unknowns competing at odd hours in distant locales .
