Marcos Galvao Prior to his mother’s death , Marcos Galvao made a promise that he would win the Bellator Season Six bantamweight tournament and capture the promotion’s championship. Galvao (17-6-1 MMA, 7-3 BMMA) did rattle off three consecutive victories to take the tournament crown but came up short when he faced then champion Eduardo Dantas (17-4 MMA, 7-2 BMMA). Dantas won by knockout in the second round and Galvao went back to the drawing board. After a three-fight winning streak – two in the Bellator cage – Dantas faced off with champion Joe Warren (13-4 MMA, 11-3 BMMA) at Bellator 135 in his second chance at the belt. This time, Dantas fulfilled the promise to his mother, who died of uterine cancer in 2012, winning the belt by kneebar in the second round from the man who narrowly defeated him in his promotional debut at Bellator 41. “I’m very happy to have conquered the belt,” Galvao told MMAjunkie.
