PITTSBURGH – Short-notice replacement and jiu-jitsu specialist Augusto Mendes didn’t dive straight for Cody Garbrandt ’s legs, but he showed some bad habits when he decided to stand and trade with the Team Alpha Male product. Those habits came back to bite Mendes (5-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) in a big way, allowing Garbrandt (8-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) to capitalize on his hesitation in the first round. The 142-pound catchweight bout (Mendes missed weight for the bantamweight limit) was part of the main card of today’s UFC Fight Night 83 event at CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh
