UFC welterweight Sean Spencer had just arrived backstage at Chicago’s United Center when then-UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones walked up to him. At that moment, Spencer, 28, had just lost via submission to jiu-jitsu standout Rafael Natal at UFC on FOX 6. It wasn’t the outcome he wanted, but he took some solace in the fact that he’d earned his way into the industry-leading promotion. “I was like, I made it to where I wanted to make it,” Spencer told MMAjunkie Radio. Still, he wasn’t quite prepared when Jones suddenly walked up to him and started talking. It wasn’t like he’d been approached by a lot of MMA stars on the regional circuit.
