Filed under: Featured , News , UFC In the fourth of 13 stories that will look back at the best-ofs for 2015, we take a look at our “Newcomer of the Year” winner: “Super” Sage Northcutt. Say what you will about his “aw, shucks” demeanor and that ever-present (and maybe a little creepy?) smile, Sage Northcutt (7-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) is unquestionably one of the year’s brightest new stars. Still just 19 years old and with a questionable level of access to the Internet , Northcutt entered 2015 with a professional record of 1-0 and boasted just 27 seconds of cage time. Six stoppage wins later, including two in the UFC, and Northcutt is now on the verge of superstardom. His critics will say “Super” Sage is all hype, but the UFC-produced YouTube special that featured his discovery has more than 1.2 million views , he’ll soon appear on a FOX-televised main card at UFC on FOX 18 and – perhaps most telling – UFC officials are investing heavily in the youngster, paying him a disclosed $80,000 for his most recent win. Time will tell if Northcutt has the game to back up the hype, but nothing can take away what the kid accomplished in 2015, rising from absolute obscurity to take a place on center stage in the world’s largest MMA organization.
