Ericka Almeida Five months ago, UFC women’s strawweight Ericka Almeida was faced with a stark choice: wait her turn for a shot in the big leagues or get one immediately by gambling with her health. Almeida (7-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC), who faces Aisling Daly (15-6 MMA, 1-1 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 76, was called on 20 days’ notice to fight Julianna Lima at UFC Fight Night 67 in Goiania, Goias, Brazil. Only one month earlier, she had defended her title in the Jungle Fight promotion after submitting her opponent in the first round. In the weeks after her win, she resumed a normal life, and she was not fight ready. She had 36 pounds to cut to make the 116-pound limit required for the May bout. “I had to diet, cut weight, fight, and repeat – twice in a row,” she told MMAjunkie.
