Fedor Emelianenko Fedor Emelianenko finally provided answers to the questions about his future when officials revealed on Saturday that the former PRIDE heavyweight champion will return to Japan to compete on New Year’s Eve . Emelianenko (34-4) will not fight for the UFC or even Bellator. Rather, he’ll reconnect with former PRIDE boss Nobuyuki Sakakibara, whose upstart promotion will launch with the event in Tokyo on Dec. 31. Emelianenko’s opponent has not been determined. Bellator promised an announcement that would “change the landscape of MMA.”‘ That’s debatable with Emelianenko, a 38-year-old who hasn’t fought since 2012, but it did spark a discussion from those within the MMA community.
