SAN JOSE, Calif. – In a pair of tournament fights to open Bellator 142, a promotional newcomer made a quick first impression, and a Bellator veteran did his best work early to reach the tourney final. Muhammed Lawal (16-4 MMA, 8-3 BMMA) opened up his first-round light heavyweight tournament bout against Linton Vassell (15-5 MMA, 4-2 BMMA) by sending a message to the other competitors. “King Mo” dropped Vassell several times in Round 1 of the two-round bout. When he was unable to finish the fight, he left the door open for Vassell to claw his way back into it. Round 2 was Vassell’s early as Lawal eased off the gas a bit.
