It’s been a busy first year for lightweight prospect Derrick Adkins . Since turning pro in January, he’s had four fights already this year, winning three of them. “I debuted against a guy who had an amateur wrestling background like me, and I did real well against him and ended up arm-barring him,” Adkins told MMAWeekly.com. “In the second fight, I made it a stand-up fight and stood about 90-percent of the fight and won it by decision. “The third one ended up in a boxing ring and I didn’t train right to be ready for that, and ended up losing a close decision. I bounced back with a rear naked choke in my next fight.” The one loss aside, Adkins feels like he’s been able to control much of the action in his fights so far.
