Conor McGregor ‘s rise up the UFC ranks can be described as nothing less than meteoric. In little more than two years, the brash Irishman blistered through the featherweight rankings, landing in the most heavily promoted UFC event in recent memory. He didn’t get to challenge featherweight champion Jose Aldo as planned at UFC 189, but McGregor did fight and defeat Chad Mendes for the interim featherweight belt
