Coker, founder and former president of the now-defunct Strikeforce, took the Bellator reins in June 2014 – with a pledge to take things slow and build the promotion back up. The tournament-based format the promotion was founded on was ditched, and instead Bellator moved to regular events about every month, rather than weekly fight cards during a season on Spike TV. In addition, Bellator started to sign some bigger-name talent as fighters left the UFC – names like Phil Davis, Josh Koshceck and Melvin Guillard are in the fold now, and Guillard headlines tonight’s Bellator 141 from Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, Calif., with a main card on Spike TV. And next month in San Jose, Calif., Bellator will host its first “Dynamite” show – a card that will be part MMA, including a light heavyweight title fight and a single-night, four-man light heavyweight tournament, and part kickboxing event
