Georges St-Pierre In this week’s Trading Shots, MMAjunkie columnist Ben Fowlkes and retired UFC/WEC fighter Danny Downes discuss the prospects for a fighters union, and the UFC’s response to the latest effort to create one. Fowlkes: Seems like the winds have shifted in the MMA world, Danny, and they are once again whispering, union . The UFC’s old nemeses at the Culinary Union, along with Teamsters Local 986, have announced their intention to organize UFC fighters , though it seems way more like yet another attempt to mess with the Fertittas than like anything done out of concern for fighters’ welfare. But, what’s this? The UFC legal team reportedly sent an email warning fighters away from this attempt to unionize. (Before you question the source on that, let me assure you that I’ve received confirmation of its authenticity from several people who received the email, so it seems legit.) My questions to you: 1) Did the UFC just do the thing where it inadvertently makes something a bigger deal by insisting that it’s nothing we should pay attention to?
