Beneil Dariush NASHVILLE – To the surprise of many and to the dismay of the crowd, Beneil Dariush was awarded a split-decision victory over Michael Johnson after what seemed like a relatively easy fight to score in the other direction. Yet while even Dariush (12-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) couldn’t say what he’d done to win the decision, he left with the victory while Johnson (16-9 MMA, 8-5 UFC) left shaking his head in disgust. The lightweight bout co-headlined today’s UFC Fight Night 73 event at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. It aired on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on FOX Sports 2 and UFC Fight Pass. For Dariush, a lot in this fight seemed to hinge on his ability to get it to the mat, which he never managed to do for any length of time. Johnson stuffed most of his takedown attempts before they got anywhere close.
