LAS VEGAS – Mike Swick returned to the UFC’s octagon for the first time in two and a half years and got the welcome back he really didn’t want. Alex Garcia (13-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) smothered Swick (15-6 MMA, 10-5 UFC) over three rounds to secure a unanimous decision in a fight that lolled about until the final bell. The welterweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC 189 event at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It aired on FOX Sports 1 following additional prelims on UFC Fight Pass and ahead of a main card on pay-per-view. The final scorecards were 29-28 and 30-27 twice for Garcia, who got back in the win column by outwrestling the veteran of “The Ultimate Fighter 1.” Although Swick suffered little damage on his back, where his opponent repeatedly put him, the counters he landed on his feet were not enough to convince judges of a win.
