Chad Mendes The UFC may have put Chad Mendes behind the 8-ball with a pretty big request Wednesday, but no matter how things wind up in a couple weeks, he’s looking at his situation as a win-win. With featherweight champion Jose Aldo (25-1 MMA, 7-0 UFC) injured, but still planning to fight Conor McGregor (17-2 MMA, 5-0 UFC) in the UFC 189 main event, the UFC went with a just-in-case backup plan and asked two-time title challenger Mendes (17-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC) to be ready to fight McGreogr for an interim belt. The thing is, Mendes might find out Friday he’s fighting McGregor. Or next Monday.
