Levan Makashvili PASAY, Philippines – The wrestling of Levan Makashvili proved to be too much for Mark Eddiva , who wouldn’t go away easily but found it difficult to stay on his feet long enough to do much damage. That was enough to convince two of the three judges to give Makashvili (7-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) the split decision victory (29-28, 29-29, 30-27) over a resilient Eddiva (6-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) The featherweight bout opened up the main card of today’s UFC Fight Night 66 event at SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, Philippines. It aired on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass. Early on it became apparent that Eddiva’s big challenge would be staying upright against the takedown-minded Makashvili. He tried just about everything, including a blatantly illegal fence grab, but over and over Eddiva found himself on the floor, though, to his credit, he was adept enough at staying active and returning to his feet that he effectively prevented Makashvili from capitalizing on his takedowns. Still, it’s hard to win a decision in a bout where what little action there is mostly features you being hauled to the mat
