RIO DE JANEIRO – Drew Dober seemed well on his way to escaping Leandro Silva ’s guillotine choke midway through the second round. Then, in a bizarre move, referee Eduardo Herdy stepped in to stop the fight for no apparent reason, giving Silva (18-2-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) a controversial win and enraging Dober (15-7 MMA, 1-3 UFC) along with the crowd, almost all of whom seemed to recognize it for the colossal blunder that it was. The lightweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC Fight Night 62 event at Maracanazinho Gymnasium in Rio de Janeiro. It aired on FOX Sports 2 following additional prelims on UFC Fight Pass and ahead of a main card on FOX Sports 1. The fight had been a competitive and evenly contested one through the first round, which saw Dober pressing forward and Silva looking to evade his attacks with his back to the fence.
