Filed under: Featured , News , UFC PORTO ALEGRE, Brazil – Former champion Frank Mir had lost four straight fights when he stepped into the octagon against onetime title challenger Antonio Silva , and he was facing pressure to retire if unsuccessful. Mir (17-9 MMA, 15-9 UFC), who advertised lifestyle changes prior to the fight, instead showed he’s still competitive as a heavyweight by knocking out Silva (18-7 MMA, 2-4 UFC) in the first round to snap his long skid and cap a night of upsets at UFC Fight Night 61. “My wife, she told me, take time off, even though I didn’t want to,” Mir said afterward. “She said to heal my body. I got ahold of some good trainers (who) really gave me a good offseason program.” The bout headlined today’s UFC Fight Night 61 event at Gigantinho Gymnasium in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. It aired on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass
