Myles Jury (This story appears in today’s edition of USA TODAY .) The eyes of the MMA world will be fixed on Las Vegas this Saturday night when UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones (20-1 MMA, 14-1 UFC) defends his title against longtime rival Daniel Cormier (15-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC) at UFC 182. After the two headliners brawled at a pre-fight press conference in August, then bickered on and off the air during subsequent TV appearances, their clash (pay-per-view, 10 p.m. ET) is bound to make this weekend’s event one of the most watched fight cards in months . That’s big business for the UFC, but also a big opportunity for the event’s lesser-known fighters like undefeated Myles Jury (15-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC), who takes on fan favorite Donald Cerrone (25-6 MMA, 12-3 UFC) in the night’s co-main event. For Jury, 26, wins over notable names in the sport are starting to pile up, but fan interest hasn’t followed at the same pace. Whether it’s a consequence of a crowded lightweight division, a fighting style that puts defense first, or a personality that doesn’t ignite enthusiasm the way an undefeated pro record otherwise might, Jury is still waiting for his breakout moment as a UFC fighter.
