The rift between Wanderlei Silva and the UFC is perhaps no more evident than now. As UFC 180 and Bellator 131 go head-to-head on Saturday, Silva today was announced as a special guest at this week’s Bellator fan and media events. Silva, who’s currently serving an indefinite suspension for skipping a May drug test, subsequently announced his MMA retirement in a video that lashed out at the UFC, taking umbrage with what he said was the way the promotion treats its fighters and poor pay. UFC President Dana White later called it a “ smoke screen .” Now, he’ll join up with the UFC’s chief rival to promote its weekend event.
