UBERLANDIA, Brazil – Last-minute replacement Ovince Saint Preux made the most of his opportunity against Mauricio Rua , stopping the ex-UFC champ in the first round with a flurry of punches. Stepping in for an injured Jimi Manuwa, Saint Preux (17-6 MMA, 5-1 UFC) silenced a hostile crowd when he took Rua (22-10 MMA, 6-8 UFC) off his feet with a left hook and then cornered the Brazilian against the cage, throwing right hands until referee Mario Yamasaki was forced to intervene at the 0:34 mark of the first round. “I’m still going to be a big ‘Shogun’ fan, but it’s one of those things – in order to become a legend, you’ve got to beat a legend, so that’s what I did that tonight,” said Saint Preux, who earned the biggest win of his career to date and rebounded from a decision loss to Ryan Bader in August.
