RIO DE JANEIRO – It wasn’t pretty, but Darren Elkins got the win after a long, hard slog of a fight against Lucas Martins. Martins (15-2 MMA, 3-2 UFC) couldn’t keep the indefatigable Elkins (18-4 MMA, 8-3 UFC) off him long enough to mount any sustained offense, resulting in a split-decision victory (30-27, 27-30, 30-27) for Elkins after three rounds. The featherweight bout was part of the the main card of today’s UFC 179 event at Maracanazinho Gymnasium in Rio de Janeiro. It aired on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass. Elkins seemed to be relying on his usual mix of takedowns and constant pressure to win this one, and for the most part Martins was unable to come up with an answer for it
