HALIFAX – Although it didn’t carry the same emotion, Rory MacDonald used the words of his former training partner and mentor, ex-champ Georges St-Pierre, in a plea for the next shot at the welterweight title after a concussive stoppage of Tarec Saffiedine . “I want that title shot,” MacDonald (18-2 MMA, 9-2 UFC) said after stopping Saffiedine (15-4 MMA, 1-1 UFC), the ex-Strikeforce champ, in the third with a picture perfect left hook. “I want the winner of the next fight. Please, give it to me.” In the headliner of UFC Fight Night 54, MacDonald put forth his best argument for the opportunity to meet the winner of an UFC 181 title rematch between champ Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler, by in large taking away the formidable weapons of Saffiedine with a meticulous game plan that gave him the best chance to win. The bout was the main event of today’s UFC Fight Night 54 event at Halifax Metro Centre in Nova Scotia, Canada.
