SAN JOSE – In a battle of tough octagon newcomers, Gilbert Burns (8-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) and Andreas Stahl (9-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) slugged it out over three rounds. Burns, who also acts as Vitor Belfort’s jiu-jitsu coach, was more than willing to stand and trade with Stahl to earn a unanimous decision. The welterweight bout was part of today’s UFC on FOX 12 preliminary card at San Jose’s SAP Center. It streamed on UFC Fight Pass prior to the day’s FOX broadcast. The final scores were unanimously 29-28 for Burns, who also coached on “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil.” Although Stahl pressed the action early in the striking department, the Brazilian was able to keep him at bay and counter in close. Burns managed to get the fight to the mat in the second frame, but the fight largely was a standup affair as both men traded bombs.
