LAS VEGAS – Russell Doane (14-3 MMA, 2-0 UFC) used takedowns and superior grappling to eek out a split decision victory (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) over Marcus Brimage (6-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC) in a closely contested bout where the judges had the final say. The bantamweight bout opened up the main card of today’s UFC 175 event at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. It aired on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass. Nearly every round was up for grabs in this one, with Doane only asserting clear control of the first frame after taking Brimage’s back and threatening with several chokes, only to be stymied by Brimage’s defense
