SAO PAULO – Gasan Umalatov (15-3-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) simply outworked Paulo Thiago (15-7 MMA, 5-7 UFC) in a slow-paced, often plodding three-round affair, using his grappling prowess to stay off the mat and his work rate to gradually wear down the Brazilian en route to unanimous decision victory (30-27, 30-27, 29-28). The welterweight bout was part of today’s TUF Brazil 3 Finale event at Ibirapuera Gymnasium in Sao Paulo, Brazil. It aired on FOX Sports 1 following additional prelims on UFC Fight Pass and ahead of a main card on FOX Sports 1. While neither fighter poured on the aggression at any point in this careful, tactical bout, Thiago seemed especially hesitant, as if always waiting for the right time to unload. Umalatov, on the other hand, maintained a consistent output, keeping the pressure on Thiago without ever overwhelming him.
