Whether it ranks at the top of the list or not is arguable, but TJ Dillashaw on Saturday night toppled Renan Barão to capture the UFC bantamweight championship. Barão hadn’t lost in his previous 33 bouts, but Dillashaw rocked him in the opening round of their fight and then dominated en route to a fifth-round TKO stoppage. Dillashaw’s contracted pay for the fight – just $36,000 including his win bonus – may seem a little low for a championship bout, but he was also awarded Performance of the Night and Fight of the Night bonuses totaling $100,000. Even in losing, however, Barão’s $74,000 show money more than doubled Dillashaw’s disclosed contracted pay.
