BALTIMORE – Chris Beal couldn’t have scripted his UFC debut any better. After stinging fellow UFC newcomer Patrick Williams with strikes in the first round, Beal backed his man up against the fence in the second frame and launched a flying knee that floored Williams, bringing an instant stop to the bout at 1:51 of Round 2. The bantamweight preliminary-card bout opened today’s UFC 172 event at Maryland’s Baltimore Arena. It streamed on UFC Fight Pass ahead of additional bouts on pay-per-view and FOX Sports 1. Williams, a former Arizona State wrestler, showed off an unorthodox striking game in the opening round, hurling himself in at Beal from great distances, and usually with little effect.
