The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has nominated “UFC Presents Ronda Rousey: Breaking Ground” for an Emmy in the category of Outstanding Sports Documentary. The one-hour documentary originally aired in September on FOX Sports 1. “ Ronda Rousey is one of the biggest stars in sports right now, and ‘Breaking Ground’ took people behind the scenes of her career like never before,” UFC President Dana White stated. “Our team worked really hard on it, and it’s awesome to be nominated alongside other great documentaries.” Other documentaries in the category includes NBC’s “First: The Official Film of the London Olympic Games,” Showtime’s “LT: The Life and Times” and NBA TV’s “The Doctor.” The Sports Emmy nomination was one of 22 such honors for the FOX Sports Media Group. Three of those nominations were given to FS1, which also saw “FOX Sports Live” named as one of six finalists for “Outstanding New Approaches – Sports Programming” and as one of five finalists in the “Outstanding Camera Work” category. According to an official release, the “UFC Presents Ronda Rousey: Breaking Ground” documentary “examines the remarkable rise of the first female champion in UFC history, detailing her childhood trauma and the complicated relationship with her mother that fueled her athletic endeavors.
