Bellator releases welterweight champion Ben Askren

Longtime welterweight champion Ben Askren  is a Bellator MMA fighter no more. After a relationship with the fighter  turned contentious, including a peculiar scenario in which company officials said they would consider waiving their matching rights if he were granted an immediate UFC title shot, Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney today announced he’s  released the fighter. “I’ve said it many times, Ben’s a completely one-dimensional fighter who is utterly dominant in that dimension,” Rebney stated.
