FORTALEZA, BRAZIL – Raphael Assuncao knew exactly where he wanted his bout with Vaughan Lee to be contested, and it didn’t take long to see why. After a first round controlled almost entirely by Assuncao on the mat, the Brazilian turned up the heat in the second frame and locked up an armbar to force the tap at 1:51 of Round 2. The bantamweight bout closed out the preliminary card of today’s UFC on FUEL TV 10 event at Paulo Sarasate Arena in Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil. It streamed on Facebook ahead of a main card on FUEL TV. Early on it was clear that Assuncao had the advantage on the mat, as Lee seemed fortunate to survive the opening round after getting mounted early on. When he was unable to stop Assuncao’s takedown to start the second, things only got worse. “I was training specifically to be able to fight Vaughan Lee because he’s a very good striker, and my strategy worked,” Assuncao said via an interpreter after the victory. Though specifying that he didn’t want “to say anyone’s name,” Assuncao added, “All I want is the chance to go for the title.” Assuncao (19-4 MMA, 4-1 UFC) has now won four straight in the UFC since dropping to 135 pounds in 2011
