UFC 302 took place Saturday at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., and kicked off a loaded month of events for the organization. Outside of a few select moments, though, it was far from a memorable event. Nine of the 12 bouts on the card went to the scorecards, but the main event wasn’t one of them. Lightweight champion Islam Makhachev (26-1 MMA, 15-1 UFC) defended his throne with a fifth-round submission of Dustin Poirier (30-9 MMA, 22-8 UFC).
