Bad blood build up boiled over in a one-sided display of cardio and pace Saturday at UFC Fight Night 221 as Merab Dvalishvili broke the promotion’s takedown attempt record in a unanimous decision victory over rival Petr Yan . The bantamweight bout served as the card’s main event at The Theater at Virgin Hotels in Las Vegas and saw Dvalishvili (16-4 MMA, 9-2 UFC) sweep the judges scorecards, each tallied at 50-45. In his first-ever UFC main event, Dvalishvili set a relentless pace, as he pressured Yan (16-5 MMA, 8-4 UFC) for the entirety of 25 minutes with a barrage of takedown attempts (49 total), leg kicks, and wild boxing exchanges. While Yan displayed elite balance and evaded many of Dvalishvili’s attempts, occasionally, he would fail in that department. As the minutes ticked, Yan seemed to struggle with composure and resets. Dvalishvili didn’t give him many opportunities to breathe
