Ahead of this week’s headliner, there was a complaint from within the UFC 284 main event that it hadn’t been marketed well enough. Lightweight champion Islam Makhachev (23-1 MMA, 12-1 UFC) a week ago said his title defense against featherweight champ Alexander Volkanovski (25-1 MMA, 12-0 UFC), who will go after a second title, has been under-promoted. UFC president Dana White disputed that after UFC Fight Night 218 this past Saturday, but also couldn’t remember Makhachev’s name – and he’s headlining the pay-per-view in Perth, Australia.
