Another UFC main event was forced to undergo change today when it was announced that Cain Velasquez would no longer compete at UFC 196 and instead Stipe Miocic will challenge Fabricio Werdum for the heavyweight title on Feb. 6. In what has become a disheartening trend throughout his career, Velasquez (13-2 MMA, 11-2 UFC) suffered an injury during the final weeks of training and therefor is unable to make his attempt at regaining the UFC belt from Werdum (20-5-1 MMA, 8-2 UFC). One man’s misfortune is another’s opportunity, though, because Miocic (14-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC) will now get a shot at UFC gold in the pay-per-view headliner at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena.
