It seems we were just here on the eve of a UFC pay-per-view headliner thinking, “Eh, I guess anything’s possible.” UFC 177’s marquee fight, a bantamweight title tilt between champ T.J. Dillashaw and Joe Soto, wasn’t the promotion’s first choice — it was a lopsided bout forced by ex-champ Renan Barao’s botched weight cut . Soto wound up surprising us all by giving Dillashaw a run for his money until a head kick knocked him into the next room. So things worked out probably as best as they could. For UFC 178, though, which takes place Saturday at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena, we’ve had plenty of time to contemplate the dicey chances of flyweight title challenger Chris Cariaso , who got the bump to contender when heir apparent John Dodson blew out his knee.
