It hasn’t been smooth sailing for James Te Huna in the octagon lately. On Monday, the veteran fighter announced he has retired from competition. Te Huna (16-9 MMA, 5-5 UFC) made the announcement on his Instagram and Twitter accounts. The New Zealander, who lives in Australia, said the decision was a tough one, but also said he plans to stay close to the sport. “I have discovered something that is tough to swallow (but made a lot of sense) since the last fight but this recent decision is a positive step towards a healthy future, I hope you can all understand,” Te Huna wrote in his announcement. “I gave it everything I had guys, and those closest to me know how much of my life I gave to competition – I didn’t have the gift when I started, just put in the work to chase a childhood dream.” Te Huna exits the sport on a four-fight skid – all first-round stoppages
